Socialite

Apparently yesterday at school, the boy ended up going into the classroom with some of the older kids for a bit.  A teacher in his room needed to leave the room and in order to maintain ratios a child would have to visit the other classroom.  The teachers asked another kid if he would mind and he started to cry at the thought of going to the other classroom.  Cale was then asked and he said he would go.  So he went over and had some fun with the older kids, doing some different activities like sorting shoes by colors/size/gender/etc.

The reason this is so cool is because Cale was willing to go into another room with a bunch of strangers and wasn’t afraid to do so.  Heck, most adults don’t want to go into another room with a bunch of strangers, let alone a four year old.  Just goes to reinforce what one of his new teachers said the other day about Cale being more socially skilled than others in his class.  It is really cool to me, ’cause I know he can handle himself with those kids in terms of social/cognitive/physical abilities despite them being older.

Dirty TV

After getting home, Dawn informs me that the boy is upstairs watching some tv.  So I go up to see him, breach the doorway, he notices me, and quickly begins to push the down channel button on the remote.  Doesn’t want me to see what he was watching. So I get the remote, inquire as to what he was watching and begin going back up the channels to see if I can figure out what was so bad that he thought he had to hide it.  Was he watching some violent tv drama?  A graphic scary movie? Had the boy discovered pr0n on our standard cable lineup?

“I wasn’t watching Sponge Bob” he says just as I am a couple clicks away from getting to that channel.

Hilarious!! He was so worried about being caught watching Sponge Bob.  That is some funny stuff.

Talkin’ Up A Storm

This past week, our little girl has really been putting her vocals to use.  She has been talking a lot more, attempting to say anything that you say to her.  Her vocabulary should really start to explode now.

Night Night Toy

A few nights ago, Teylah expressed interest for the first time in taking a toy with her to bed.  She knew it was bed time and was reaching for the toy, and then did not want to give it up.  What was this magical toy?  A Jabba the Hutt figure from the Galactic Heroes series.  That’s my girl!

Steel trap, part three

Cale: Hey daddy, I think we should both make music on our harmonicas.

Me: But I don’t know where mine is.

Cale: It’s in your bedroom.

Me: It is? Well I don’t know where it is in there.

Cale: It’s in that… what’s that white thing called next to the bed?

Me: The dresser?

Cale: Yeah, it’s in your dresser.

Me: Ok, I will go and look just to make sure.

(This whole time, I am still unconvinced of its location. I know it had been placed somewhere after taking it out from the truck one day, but that was a few weeks ago.)

Upon opening my armoire door (that’s really what he was talking about) there it was on one of the shelves. So I grab it and return to the family room.

Me: Hey Cale, do you know what it was next to in my dresser? (I ask if he knows what it was next to because I am wondering exactly how good this kid’s memory is.)

Cale: No, I don’t know.

Me: Do you know where it was in my dresser?

Cale: Yes.

Me: Can you show me?

Cale: Yes.

We walk to the bedroom, I open the armoire door, and ask him where it was in there.

He proceeds to lay his fingers down exactly where I picked it up from.

It had probably been at least a week since the last time he had viewed inside my armoire and then for him to remember exactly where one specific item was placed seems pretty incredible to me.

Me: You are very smart Cale, that is exactly where it was. Good job!

The Force is strong with this one…

While playing, Cale laughs.

Me: Laugh it up fuzz-ball. Hey Cale, who says that?

Cale: Superman? (we were playing the the Superman “bop bag”).

Me: No, try again.

Cale: Han Solo!

Kid knows his Star Wars movies. We proceeded to ask him a couple more quotes and he got those right as well.

Parachute

While playing with a toy parachute from upstairs, over the railing, letting it fall downstairs:

Me: All three year olds should have a parachute to play with, right?

Cale: Yeah, but probably not all of the towns have them.

Me: You’re probably right.

You know, the one with the honey…

Cale: I want to watch a movie, the one where we eat honey together.

Me: When did we do this?

Cale: I don’t know.

Me: What did we eat the honey from?

Cale: I don’t know.

Me: Did we do this?

Cale: I don’t remember, but I want to watch the video.

The Gypsies

Me: Should we sell your sister to the gypsies?

Cale: No.

Me: Even if we could get three or four dollars for her?

Cale: No I want her to stay here with me, because I like her.

Steel trap, part two

Cale: Oooo what’s this from?

Mommy: It’s a gift card from your last birthday that you bought your, um….

Cale: …soccer goal with!

Mommy: Yes!

Woah.  His birthday was ten months ago, and the soccer goal was purchased sometime soon after that.  So the kid remembers exactly what item a gift card was used to purchase almost a year after the fact.  And let’s not forget that that means at the time he was just barely three years old.  I’ll say it again; the kid has an incredible mind.  Steel trap, photographic sort of incredible, at times.
