Would you like fries with that?

This afternoon Dawn, Cale, and I went to Streamer’s (a nifty diner like place that specializes in ice cream desserts – highly recommend it – good food and service) for lunch/dinner. When our waitress came to ask us what we would like for dinner, I ordered first then turned to Cale and started to ask him what he would like. He had previously expressed interest in both the chicken fingers and the stuffed macaroni and cheese dealies they have. Before I could finish re-presenting the options to him, he politely tells the waitress (Grace was her name – the name of one of Dawn’s Great-Grandmothers and a name I believe she likes a lot and would possibly want considered for our girl’s name, except for the fact that I’m not so fond of it for the name of a child of mine – sorry. And no, we still do not know what we will be naming her – we have it narrowed to about ten names, but are still working out issues of nickname considerations.)… ok so where was I? Oh yes, so he politely tells her (paraphrased) “Ummm, I would like macaroni and cheese.” Grace: “And would you like french fries or cole slaw?” Cale: “French fries. Pleeease.” Here he is, a bit over two and a half and the kid can order his own meal at a restaurant! Maybe by the time he’s three he can pay the bill on his own too. ; )

After our meal we took an excursion to try and get a closer view of the snow that we noticed had landed on the mountains surrounding the Valley over the past couple of days. It was the first chance we really had to notice that there was snow on the mountains, since the cloud-cover had kept them well-obscured. Unfortunately it was close to five o’clock by this time, so daylight was running out on us. But we drove out to Tortilla Flat, saw the snow on the Superstitions and on the mountains leading out to and around Canyon Lake and Tortilla Flat. I wish we had known about the snow being so close earlier in the day, ’cause then we would have gone and played. Well, once we get home, we find out from a message on the machine from Dawn’s dad that Tempe actually got some snow. And from checking azcentral online we learn that actually a fair amount of the Valley, including north Mesa, like directly north of us about 10 miles, got some decent snow that stuck and accumulated. Wish we had known about that! But no snow for those of us down in the south-east part of the Valley. : ( Oh well, hopefully we’ll get some more weather like this before winter is over so we can have some fun. But the drive and scenery were at least nice, and better than just heading to the store or home like we would have otherwise.
